Personal Bookseller: a new kind of book-selling
Do you like good books and interesting people?
Are you someone who can listen and who can sell?
Can you solve problems and get things done?
If so, Heywood Hill’s new Personal Bookselling service could suit you well.
Heywood Hill is one of London’s leading independent bookshops. We sell important, interesting and beautiful books to enrich people’s lives. We are looking for an outstanding sales person to enhance our newly formed personal bookselling team.
Personal bookselling means getting to know individual customers and responding to all their bookish needs, whether they want good books to read, collect or give.
We have some great customers. We are now building a team of talented sales professionals to look after them, with a particular focus on a core group of higher value customers. Each personal bookseller will act as the primary point of contact for a select group of our customers.
As part of this team you will help identify the most appealing or special books from publishers and book dealers across Britain and beyond to offer to your customers. Uniquely this will include out of print and rare books as well as new titles, with advice and training available from our rare books specialists.
This proactive and creative approach to bookselling will provide a fulfilling and adventurous career for the right candidate, who will enjoy developing good customers into great customers as well as seeking out new ones.
You will also be expected to roll your sleeves and lend a hand wherever needed. In addition to the Personal Bookselling side of the role, you will look after some of our subscription customers who receive carefully chosen books each month, which you will select, order and post. These choices come following in-depth reading consultations with every recipient in order to learn each person’s literary likes and dislikes. These take place in person, over the phone or online. They encompass a wide range of interests and ages, including children’s books.
We are looking for someone with sales experience, preferably in the luxury sector, and ideally involving account management.
Salary: Up to £25,000 a year, depending on experience. Salaries reviewed annually, with a discretionary bonus.
This role is based in our shop in Mayfair, 10 Curzon Street, London W1J 5HH and will include some off-site meetings and the potential of one day a week working remotely.
Deadline to apply is midnight on 16 September 2022. If interested please tell us why in a short cover letter enclosing your CV recruitment@heywoodhill.com.
