Author: Roberta Bernstein
About this book:
This definitive five-volume catalogue raisonné documents the entire body of painting and sculpture made by Johns from 1954 through 2014, encompassing 355 paintings and 86 sculptures. Foregrounding the art objects and maximizing the accessibility of information, the catalogue serves as a singular reference for scholars, artists, collectors, art professionals, and enthusiasts alike. In lieu of individual texts, a richly illustrated monograph spanning Johns’s artistic oeuvre is presented as a separate volume, providing an overarching narrative for the six decades of painting and sculpture documented here.
About this Author:
Roberta Bernstein has written and lectured extensively on Johns and other contemporary artists, including Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, and Marisol Escobar. In 2003 Bernstein was guest curator and catalogue essay author for the exhibition Jasper Johns: Numbers, at the Cleveland Museum of Art; she is co-curator of a major Johns exhibition opening at the Royal Academy of Art in London in September 2017. Bernstein is professor emeritus of art history at the University at Albany, State University of New York.
