Sir Patrick Leigh Fermor DSO OBE 1915-2011PLF had been a part of HH life for as long as anyone could remember. A new book from him brought the shop to a standstill. A visit was always a treasured event full of gossip, good humour and fun.
Children's Book DoctorAn Evening Standard investigation has revealed some shocking statistics about literacy. According to the paper, one in three children in the capital do not own a book, and one in four leave primary school unable to read or write properly.
"Unquestionably the grandest surivor of them all..."We were delighted to be descibed by Godfrey Smith in such glowing terms in his article 'Unlimited Shelf Life' in 'The Sunday Times' on 5th December, 2010. To read more of Godfrey's article on Independent Book Shops please use the link below.
Nancy Mitford Boxed SetsWith a little help from the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, we have arranged for special boxed sets of the re-issued Nancy Mitford novels to be on sale at Heywood Hill. The five novels fit snugly into a beautiful blue box, with "Love from Nancy" printed in gold on the top and on the back of each. Order a boxed set of Nancy Mitford
'More Good Work by Anon'At Heywood Hill we admire Emma Tennant for her passion for books, as much as her wondrous ability as an artist. In 2009 we asked Emma to select her favourite books and 'More Good Work by Anon' was the marvellous result. With typical style, Emma has produced a hugely enjoyable essay which will delight book-lovers.
