'Hunters in the Dark by Lawrence Osborne is an excellent and well written account of low life and corruption in Cambodia. It reminded me of The Comedians by Graham Greene, which, although set in Haiti, has the same feel. I reread The Comedians and wallowed in the brilliance and fluency of Green's writing.'

On himself: David Astor's working life has involved small time venture capital, politics and the Arts. If he had spent less time reading books he might have been more successful.
